Salkehatchie
Leader: Barry & Patty Ellison

What is Salkahatchie...

Salkehatchie Summer Service is a South Carolina Methodist, born and bred service ministry.  High school and college youth, along with adult site leaders will spend a week upgrading impoverished homes in South Carolina.

There are about 40 camp locations in the state.  Teams consisting of 8-12 youth, plus adult  site leaders will spend the week upgrading  pre-determined homes near the camp.  The purpose is to make the home safe, dry, and sanitary.  The typical tasks include roof work;  replacing unstable floors, framing and walls;  repair/replacement of plumbing pipes and fixtures;  and any necessary electrical upgrades.  Then there is the finishing touches involving cabinetry and trim work, painting, painting and more painting.

How you can help...

  • Participate - Youth (age 14 and up) willing to work and adults with skills are needed.  Support crews also help with feeding and transporting the camp workers.
  • Financial Support - Monetary contributions needed and appreciated.  Registration fees and  conference benevolences do not cover all costs.
  • Supplies - Lumber, paint, caulk, plywood, nails, etc.  See Bradley Gantt about supply donations.
  • Prayer - Please pray for the ministry, workers and all involved.
